JYF/MYF Community Builder
First Mennonite Church of Denver (FMC) is seeking a permanent, quarter-time, on-site employee with a focus on community building, programming and working with teens in a faith-based setting will be the focus. Junior Youth Fellowship (JYF, Middle School) and Mennonite Youth Fellowship (MYF, High School) students within FMC are targets of this program.
The purpose of this position is to develop relationships with teens at FMC and provide leadership, coordination, oversight, and guidance for JYF and MYF The person in this position will work closely with the Faith Formation Administrator and the Pastor.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Recruit and support Youth Sponsor teams (3-6 individuals) for the JYF and MYF groups.
• Coordinate and attend, with Youth Sponsor teams, JYF and MYF community building activities.
• Build individual, trusting relationships with JYF and MYF youth and help each of them feel welcome, included, and engaged in activities.
• Involve and encourage youth decision making about the Program.
• Provide opportunities for involvement and community activities in accordance with church mission and values.
• Develop and implement program/activities that address teens’ developmental needs for finding meaning, belonging, and developing competence of each participant.
• Communicate with parents/care givers and families, engaging them in activities and outreach opportunities for youth participants.
• Collaborate with Faith Formation Administrator and Pastor in planning and implementing Peace School Program at FMC.
• Create and implement service and community building activities (outside Sunday mornings), relating the Peace School curriculum to the activities for JYF and MYF.

Primary Qualifications:
• Minimum of 21 years of age.
• 1 - 2 years’ experience (or the equivalent) working in youth ministry in church or faith-based settings with middle and high school youth.
• Knowledge and ability to maintain appropriate boundaries to ensure a safe and healthy environment for youth with whom Community Builder works.
• Basic computer skills with knowledge of Word, Microsoft Office, and Google.
• Pass a background check.
• Knowledge of and experience in church/faith-based leadership.
• Demonstrated ability/experience in relating to, interacting with, and being a role model for youth in a faith-based setting.
The JYF/MYF Community Builder is expected to work an average of 10 hours per week with some variability of hours. The rate of pay is $1000.00/month minus taxes and withholding. There are no additional benefits offered.
